Dentures and Partial Dentures in Norman

While we all prefer to keep our teeth healthy and functional for the long run, there are cases in which teeth are lost or need to be extracted. This can be due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, trauma from an injury, or various other reasons. In cases when most or all natural teeth are non-restorable, and if a patient lacks the bone density necessary to support implants, partial or complete dentures may be the best course of action. If some natural, healthy teeth remain, you have the option of getting a partial denture to replace missing teeth. If no healthy teeth remain, then a complete denture, replacing all natural teeth would be recommended.

Caring for your Dentures

If you want your dentures to last a long time, proper care is necessary. A few simple steps will keep your dentures healthy and fresh for years to come.

Handle your dentures carefully

Dentures may be durable inside your mouth, but dropping them onto a hard surface can break them. Be sure not to bend or stretch any part of the dentures during cleaning.

Brush daily

Brush gently with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft brush. Don’t use toothpaste, which can abrade your dentures.

Soak in a cleaning solution when not in use

Keep your dentures moist at all times. During long periods when you aren’t wearing them—overnight, for instance—soak them in the solution recommended by your dentist.

Rinse after cleaning and soaking

You don’t want to accidentally ingest a cleaning solution, so rinse with clean water before placing them back into your mouth.
